10 December 2022 - To celebrate the hard work and dedication of our volunteers from the docent programme, who stuck with us through the pandemic, the Research and Conservation team curated an Appreciation Day.
The day started with a guided walk around the coastal areas of RWS, followed by brunch and games. After which, there were presentations given by Dr Serena Teo and Dr Lee Bee Yan, established scientists and research collaborators from National University of Singapore. They gave presentations on the marine biodiversity found in Singapore’s waters and even brought preserved specimens for the volunteers to look at! They also highlighted that volunteers trained as citizen scientists are important to research work, and invited the volunteers to sign up to train as citizen scientists for the upcoming May expedition under the RWS-NUS Living Laboratory Research Collaboration. Through this event, we hope to strengthen our relationship with our volunteer communities as well as garner feedback from them with a view on further improving our volunteer programmes.
