Youth Ocean Ambassador - June 2023

The Education, Research and Conservation department in S.E.A. Aquarium recently concluded the first iteration of the Youth Ocean Ambassador (YOA) Programme!

This programme aims to engage youths aged 15 to 18 years old and challenge them to tackle an international environmental issue in an innovative way. The first iteration hosted nine students from various junior colleges in Singapore. The students went on a two-week hybrid journey, with field trips, beach cleanups, aquarium back-of-house tours and expert talks.

Additionally, they had online modules, groupwork and discussions that were done online.

At the end of two weeks, they had to present the results of their groupwork – a unique, innovative solution to the theme Rising Sea Levels.

The students also participated in outreach activities – being based in the aquarium and trying out various front-facing roles to engage guests in topics of marine biology.

Through the experience, the students got to understand the multi-faceted requirements to be part of the marine biology industry. The students will return in future YOA iterations as mentors. The next iteration will focus on a separate environmental issue and will take place in December 2023. Email education@rwsentosa.com to find out more and book a slot!
