2018

Inclusive Sports Festival
Taking our disabled diving programme to the wider community, we participated in Sport Singapore’s second Inclusive Sports Festival held from 3 to 5 August 2018 at the Singapore Sports Hub. As Singapore’s first and only accredited Disabled Divers International Centre offering diving programmes at the S.E.A. Aquarium for those with disabilities, RWS supported the festival by allowing participants to try out disabled diving in a safe and supervised environment, promoting inclusivity through sports.

AWWA Senior Community Home
In February 2017, we hosted elderly residents from AWWA Senior Community Home to a Lunar New Year celebration dinner at RWS. Our senior management raised more than S$44,000 from their personal contributions to donate to the home as well as distribute red packets and goodie bags comprising household necessities to over 130 elderly residents.

A few months later, we organised a special outing to RWS in July 2017 where 150 elderly and their families from AWWA Senior Community Home and the South West District were treated to lunch at Malaysian Food Street followed by a matinee performance of our resident theatre production, CHEF: Bibimbap vs Chilli Crab.

Clean Up South West!
We also took part in South West District’s Clean Up South West!, the district’s annual trash-for-groceries recycling programme. We contributed more than 1,140 kilogrammes of old clothing and linen through an internal recycling competition which was converted into about 380 kilogrammes of rice for needy families in the district.

The star studded fundraiser dinner concert performances by artistes Jackie Chan, Wakin Chau and Jonathan Lee at the Resorts World Ballroom was organised by a group of individuals who wanted to celebrate SG50 with the spirit of giving. RWS sponsored the accommodation, venue and banquet for the event. Proceeds of the fundraiser go to All Saints Home, Sian Chay Medical Institution, Singapore Power Heartware Fund, the Singapore University of Technology and Design’s Scholarship Programme, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities and the Viva Foundation for Children with Cancer.

Peter Pan – The Never Ending Story
Over 1,000 children from 80 primary and secondary schools were treated to the musical Peter Pan – The Never Ending Story at the Resorts World Theatre, as part of efforts to raise donations for the Sing50 fund. Some $348,000 was raised through the event.

Great World Cabaret
On 17 February, 17 aRWSome volunteers brought 160 seniors from Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society down memory lane with Mark Lee in Great World Cabaret at Resorts World Theatre. It was an evening of nostalgia as the elderly enjoyed traditional hawker fare at Malaysian Food Street before watching Singapore’s 1960 cabaret come to life.

Project We Care Garden Party at Istana
Some 16 of our aRWSome volunteers spent a day “partying” with senior citizens under the care of South West Community Development Council at the Project We Care's Garden Party at Istana. The seniors were engaged through games and activities such as calligraphy and balloon sculpting. Organised by the People's Association (PA), Project We Care hopes to encourage volunteerism in Singapore and engage the private sector in contributing towards meaningful causes for the community.

Adopt-A-Rental-Block
RWS' first Adopt-A-Rental-block programme was spearheaded by 24 aRWSome volunteers. Amongst them was our very own Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tan Hee Teck and members of our Senior Management team. The team handed out goodie bags to some 200 residents living at two rental blocks in Clementi, and fulfilled the wishes of seven other residents on public assistance. From fixing beds and fans, enjoying a feast with the residents prepared by our chefs and a karaoke session, both the residents and our volunteers had a whale of a time!
