Witness the massive Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori Dance, an annual festivity in Japan where traditional dancers take over the street and garner over 1 million spectators, as well as an impressive display of “pole lanterns” in the Akita Kanto Performance, commemorating the Tanabata ,or “star” festivals.

Organised as part of one of the Tohoku Region’s great festivals, dancers display their impressive ‘kanto’ skills as they balance long bamboo poles with paper lanterns attached to the end, lit by real candles. Performers dance to the sound of drums, flutes and onlookers chanting and cheer in excitement. 


Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori Dance
