Performer Requirements

ARRIVAL
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your audition time/open call in order to complete all registration documents.

HEADSHOT AND RESUME/CV
Please bring a current, non-returnable headshot and resume/CV.

PASSPORT
A valid passport or eligibility to obtain a passport in a timely manner is required.

RELOCATION
Must be willing to relocate to Singapore for up to 13 months. Contract lengths may vary depending on role.

18 +
Performers must be at least 18 years of age on the day of the audition.


Role Requirements

CHARACTER ACTORS
Prepare a one minute comedic or upbeat monologue in character. Candidates should resemble the character of choice in look, height and personality; have a positive attitude and a good speaking voice. Actors must make smart, show-appropriate choices, and possess the ability to ad-lib with guests. Be prepared for the unexpected! Feel free to dress up in your chosen role and stay in character whilst in the audition room. You may be asked to do a cold reading, learn additional material, or participate in improvisational games. Please also bring form-fitting attire to show body shape.

Note: If you are auditioning for the role of Marilyn Monroe, you will need to sing on the second day of auditions after the reading. You will NOT be allowed to bring sheet music. You MUST sing in character voice, a capella / in MMO.

ANIMATED STREET STARS (COSTUME CHARACTERS)
(Singapore auditions only)
Candidates will be guided through an animation skills evaluation and will be required to learn a movement combination. Please wear form-fitting dance attire and appropriate dance shoes for athletic choreography. There may be an initial type-out audition.

Please note: All character roles are height specific! Height ranges are between 140cm/4'8" and 190cm/6'3" with special consideration for candidates between 140cm/4'8" – l52cm/5’0".

VOCAL IMPERSONATORS
(Male only)
Prepare a one minute comedic or upbeat monologue, as Donkey from the Shrek® series. Candidates should be confident, high-energy actors with engaging personalities, who possess excellent impersonation skills. You must demonstrate impeccable comedic timing, make smart, show-appropriate choices, and possess the ability to ad-lib with resort guests. You may be asked to do a cold reading, learn additional material, or participate in improvisational games during the audition. Expect the unexpected.

SINGERS WHO MOVE WELL/DANCERS WHO SING
Vocalists who are in excellent physical condition and have a great vocal range needed for all roles. Please prepare 16 Bars of an up-tempo song. Please come prepared with a minus-one track, either on CDs or iPods. Singers may be asked to learn additional material and learn an extensive dance combination. Wear form fitting dance attire that allows for full range or movement and wear appropriate dance shoes for any style of choreography. There may be an initial type-out audition.

HOSTS
(Singapore auditions only)
Universal Studios Singapore® requires a range of Hosts for a diverse and unique range of entertainment experiences within the park. A clear speaking voice with excellent diction is essential, and the ability to deliver script, improvise with park guests, and drive a live performance experience are a must.

Key Audition Tips

  • This audition is for a Family Fun Theme Park. We are looking for people who are fun, uplifting, bright and well groomed.
    Try to maintain a sunny persona throughout the whole experience and always watch your language in the waiting room!

  • The key to this audition is preparation and confidence! Singers, ensure that your sheet music is neatly presented and choose an upbeat song from the Pop or Musical Theatre genre that not only suits your voice, but also showcases your personality.

  • SINGERS/DANCERS: Wear fitted clothing that you can move in and that makes you look your very best. Girls - be sure to be made up with your hair done. Check out the Universal Studios Singapore website for research on how our performers look when in character.

  • ACTORS MUST RESEARCH! You need to research all aspects of your character including their accent and mannerisms. A great place to start is the attached documents of character descriptions here as well as the Universal Studios Singapore website.

  • ACTORS MUST ALSO READ THE ROLE REQUIREMENTS TO ENSURE THAT YOU PHYSICALLY FIT THE CHARACTER YOU HAVE CHOSEN IN TERMS OF HEIGHT AND BUILD – we don’t want you to waste your time!

  • ACTORS: Come dressed in the theme of your chosen character – you don’t have to come in full costume.

  • ALL PERFORMERS: Be prepared to be thrown a script at any time to do a cold read – the Creative Team may feel that you might be perfect for a particular role and want to test you on it immediately. Again, confidence is key!

  • If you are attending both calls, bring appropriate outfits for your respective roles.

  • Selected candidates may be briefed on working at Universal Studios Singapore. We may also need to take your measurements for costume tailoring purposes.

  • Be well prepared with snacks and drinks. It could be a long day!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When is the contract for?
    Contracts will commence starting second half of 2018 to second half of 2019.

  2. What is the pay like?
    Pay Package will vary based on the Primary Role hired.

  3. Do I sing or dance first?
    Singers who move well / Dancers who can sing will ALL sing first. Movement/dance will follow.

  4. When are the callbacks?
    Some call backs are on the day you audition and some final call backs will be in the afternoon of the second day (for international auditions).

  5. How long will the auditions go for?
    In most cities you will be finished by no later than 7pm.

Failure to follow this Format may invalidate your Submission.

Video Submission Format – Please include ALL of the following in your audition email

  1. CV, Headshot and Nationality
  2. Customised Video Submission – In the form of an Unlisted YouTube URL Link
  3. Please introduce yourself to the camera and say your name, age, where you are from and the role(s) you wish to be considered for. Include the below whenever applicable to the role(s)

Singer/Dancer
A 30-sec self-introduction to the camera showcasing your personality. Let us learn something about you.
Singing: Include singing material which is genre-specific and demonstrates your vocal range.
Please DO NOT sing acapella. Please DO NOT submit a studio recording which has been enhanced. Submit only performance videos and/or sing LIVE to the camera.
Dance: Please include a dance segment which demonstrates technical training (turns, flexibility, toe point, etc.) in hip hop and jazz.
Showreel duration – no longer than 4 mins.

Face Characters
ALL: A 30-sec self-introduction to the camera which showcases your personality. Let us learn something about you.
ALL: A 2-min short monologue in character for your chosen role.
ALL: A 1-min segment in which you speak to camera in character and tell us something about that character. For example, speak as Marilyn Monroe and talk about why she loves diamonds.
Marilyn Monroe / Betty Boop only: A 30-sec segment in which you sing in the style of your character, capturing the essence and vocal tone of the character. Showreel duration – no longer than 4 mins.

B-Boy/Dance/Acrobatics:
A 30-sec self-introduction to the camera showcasing your personality. Let us learn something about you.
Please submit a video including some/all of the following styles:
B-boy (required), popping, locking and tricks that you could perform on a regular basis and in multiple shows per day. If you have technical dance training or other styles/skills, please also demonstrate them in the video.
Showreel duration – no longer than 3.5 mins.
