Chef’s Recipe | Milo cake with frosting
Looking for an easy cake recipe to try? Chef Adolf Tan from Malaysian Food Street has a simple, no-fuss Milo cake recipe that kids and adults alike will love. And for those who love frosting, he has included steps on how to incorporate the sinful treat in too!
Ingredients for the cake:
- All-purpose flour 130g
- Milo powder 130g
- Baking powder 12g
- Sugar 60g
- Salt 3g
- Evaporated milk 230g
- Melted butter 50g
- Egg 50g (approximately one egg)
- Combine all the dry ingredients (all-purpose flour, Milo powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt) in a mixing bowl.
- Next, create a well in the middle and pour in the evaporated milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix the mixture evenly.
- Once you’re done, brush some butter onto the baking pan – this will prevent the cake from sticking to the sides. Pour in the cake mixture and bake for 30 minutes at 150 °C.
- Once the cake is done, set aside and let it rest for 15mins before tucking into it.
- If you’re keen to include the frosting, slice the cake horizontally into two once it has cooled down.
Ingredients for the frosting:
- Butter 140g
- Icing sugar 280g
- Milk 20g
- Vanilla extract 10g
- Combine everything in the following order: butter, icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Mix the ingredients well either by hand or with an electric whisk until a firm texture is achieved.
- Spread the frosting on top of the cake’s base layer, then cap it with the remaining cake layer.
- Next, proceed to spread frosting all over the entire cake until it is evenly covered by frosting on its top and sides.
- If you’re keen, you may also pipe frosting around the circumference of the cake.
- Lastly, sprinkle some Milo powder on top as a finishing touch.
