Highlight - Issue 8
01 April 2009, Wednesday
We've a bumper crop of news for you this month as Resorts World at Sentosa is bursting with new developments.

The Sentosa skyline has changed with Maxims Tower reaching the roof level in late February. The 11-storey tall hotel tower achieved a major construction milestone on 27 February 2009 when it was topped out with a last golden shovel of cement.

The hotel tower also received its beige undercoat in March, paving the way for installation of stone cladding on the tower walls and its signature dome roof.

Alongside achievements on the construction front, Resorts World is concurrently ramping up recruitment for staff in its four hotels, Festivewalk, casino and Universal Studios Singapore theme park – all slated for a soft opening in early 2010.

Check out our April webcast for the latest update on our site development.

Progress Update
The Theatre
Do not adjust your screen. The floor in the picture above slides. It's part of the concrete deck that carries the seating area inside the resort's resident show theatre. The theatre's cavernous hall, located under Festive Hotel, is being fitted out to seat 1,600 people. Cutting edge audio and lighting systems will also be installed, breathing life to a stage for live revues, concerts and product presentations to large audiences. It is open for corporate bookings. Contact the MICE sales team at: mice@rwsentosa.com.

Hotel Michael
Rising steadily skyward is Hotel Michael, now halfway to its 11-storey height. Passengers on the Sentosa Express monorail get an eyeful of Hotel Michael's distinctive façade as the electric train winds its way into the resort island and runs silently past Hotel Michael. Plans call for a monorail station near Hotel Michael. This will bring guests close to Festive Walk, where they can dine, people watch, and have fun and frolic round-the-clock.
New Bridge installation
The New Bridge leading to Sentosa island is a step closer to completion. The last pre cast concrete segment was hoisted gingerly into place by a giant floating crane just before noon on 20 March 2009, this completing the whole length of the 710-metre bridge between mainland Singapore and Sentosa island. You can drive along the spanking new bridge in September this year. The three lanes on the New Bridge will add to the existing four-lane Causeway Bridge and will make driving to Sentosa island a much breezier cruise.

Human Resources
William Fong, Andrew Sim and Chee Yong Wei were among the job seekers who struck the jackpot at a career fair in Singapore after they landed much sought-after jobs with Resorts World at Sentosa. William has been hired as a casino technician while Andrew and Yong Wei will be trained as croupiers. The trio will be among the first Singaporeans to work at a casino here.

The Career 2009 job fair that the trio attended at Suntec City in March was a success for Resorts World, which attracted 20,000 applications for 800 positions on offer. Eventually, the resort will have 10, 000 staff when it opens in 2010.

In the huge pool of talent that Resorts World has amassed in the job applications are team members who will launch Resort World's operations in early 2010. Are you amongst them?

RWS's Senior Vice President for Human Resources and Training, Ms Seah-Khoo Ee Boon said "My colleagues and I find it heartening to know that many people want to join Resorts World at Sentosa. The task at hand involves picking a winning team for the mega resort's opening in early 2010. I'm confident that strong support for our recruitment ads and job fair presentations points to healthy public support once the resort opens its doors. "
Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride
This may look like a warehouse from afar. But when complete, the prominent building at Universal Studios Singapore will house heaps of fun and thrills. The seven-storey Revenge of the Mummy attraction is being fitted out with an indoor roller coaster, themed after Hollywood's phenomenally popular "Mummy" movies. Bookmark this page as the façade of the Revenge of the Mummy, which harks back to the glory days of Ancient Egypt, gets fitted soon. We'll bring you exclusive pictures as the huge statues and columns start going up. Shhh... that's all we can say for now!

WaterWorld Amphitheatre
The only sounds that echo around the 3,500 seat WaterWorld amphitheatre now are those from construction tools such as jack hammers, drills and power saws. Book a seat in show centre when the WaterWorld stunt and special effects spectacular starts early next year. The 7-metre deep pool – one of the deepest in Singapore – will be the performance area for the stunt professionals. The WaterWorld show is a hit at Universal Studios theme parks worldwide, with some 75 per cent of all Universal Studios visitors making time for it. Brace yourself for packed stands when the show begins. Fire! Explosion! Action!
Others
ou can't wait for us to open? Neither can we!
