RWS completes tunnel entrance
The queues and exhaust fumes at the ticket toll booths are about to bite dust. Come 2010, visitors to RWS can cruise into the resort’s 4,000-lot car park and coach bays via one of these tunnels. Four such tunnels, which took about a year to complete, were finished this quarter. Located before the island gantry booths, the tunnels provide a fuss-free dive into RWS’s two-storey basement parking, which will be run on an electronic system.
Mostly hidden from sight by the new Sentosa Gateway Avenue, each of the two-lane tunnels has a minimum height of 5.4 m to accommodate double-deck tour coaches. The underground roads are the latest in a series of steps RWS is taking to smooth traffic in and out of Sentosa. In May this year, it opened a new, wider Gateway Avenue on the island. It is also constructing a new bridge for Sentosa in anticipation of the heavy traffic coming its way in 2010.
