The Marine Life Fund, in line with Resorts World Sentosa’s blue footprint, is committed to marine conservation and research. Here are some of the projects that Marine Life Fund has sponsored.
Wildaid’s Galapagos Forever Programme
Exceptional biodiversity and a high degree of marine endemism have placed the Galapagos Archipelago in a prominent position on the environmental community’s shortlist of essential conservation marine protected areas. Perhaps the single most important consideration in the protection and ultimate preservation of the biodiversity in the Galapagos Islands is law enforcement. Over the past 24 months, WildAid in cooperation with partners have made considerable progress in the implementation of a comprehensive law enforcement program.
The Marine Life Fund, set up by the Marine Life Park to fund marine conservation projects and to further the marine conservation cause, has supported WildAid in this program since November 2008. As one of the first projects to be awarded sponsorships from the Marine Life Fund, we are very proud to be a partner of such a program that will make a difference for our future generations.
The Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR) is located at Puerto Ayora, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, was established in 1998 by the Galapagos Special Law to protect these fabled islands of Darwin. Known as the largest marine reserve in a developing country and the third largest marine reserve in the world, the GMR possesses exceptional biodiversity and a high degree of endemic marine life.
Through this program, the Marine Life Park will be supporting a marine conservation program that is considered by many in the conservation arena as one of the most important due to the exceptional biodiversity found in the Galapagos.
WildAid is a San Francisco based non-profit organization aiming to end illegal wildlife trade. It was also a partner to Resorts World Sentosa for the resort’s "No shark fin" announcement in May 2008.
