Highlight - Issue 9
01 June 2009, Tuesday
Midway into 2009, Resorts World at Sentosa is some 100 days away from topping out all its major buildings. The pace of work is so rapid that engineers here say the work site looks like a different place every three days.

Alongside the construction activities, Resorts World's staff strength continues to expand. The USS team recently embarked on a regional audition tour.

Progress Update
Hotel Showrooms wow visitors
Four hotels, each with a distinct personality, were unveiled in early April to journalists and RWS partners. Take a guided tour of their showrooms here to see how the hotels - which opens with over 1,300 rooms early next year - bring to life Resorts World at Sentosa's promise: Six hotels, six unique themes - it's like waking up to six different holidays in one place. Two more hotels adding another 500 rooms are slated for a later opening.

Maxims Tower
Maxims Tower will soon be crowned with a dome roof, adding architect Michael Graves' distinctive style to Sentosa's skyline. Throughout May, lower frame structures weighing 4.6 tonnes each were hauled to the top of the 11-storey tall luxury hotel by a tower crane. When fully assembled, the whole dome will weigh 146 tonnes - about the weight of 29 adult African elephants.

Festive Hotel
There was - if you'll excuse a bad pun - an air of festivity at Festive Hotel recently. The construction crew was in high spirits as they prepared to top off the eight-storey high hotel in early June, paving the way for the interior finishing to be fitted out.

Battlestar Galactica Dueling Coasters
Battlestar Galactica fans can sit tight and wait for the battle to begin. A forest of steel columns canted at various angles have sprouted at Universal Studios Singapore, marking good progress of the world's tallest pair of dueling coasters. More than 200 columns will be installed for this ride, which will pit two combating coaster cars against each other in the edgiest and most heart thumping battle for the universe ever. Battlestar Galactica Dueling Coasters are among 18 original attractions at Universal Studios Singapore, which boasts at total of 24 attractions.

Human Resources
They donned park uniforms , served up drinks and ushered guests. Dozens of Resorts World at Sentosa interns spent several months at Universal Studios Orlando, where they got a taste of theme park operations.

Their work attachment was arranged by Resorts World and local polytechnics Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and the Tourism Academy.

Ms Seah-Khoo Ee Boon, Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Training, said:"Within the Singapore workforce, there's hardly anybody who has worked in a world-class theme park like Universal Studios. That's because this is the first time we are having a theme park of this scale.

"Our collaboration with polytechnics and the Tourism Academy is intended to increase the pool of professionals exposed to world-class service standards. Over time, we will have a steady pipeline to meet our recruitment needs for USS, so it's a win-win partnership.

"We're thrilled that the first batch of polytechnic and Tourism Academy interns found their work attachment at Universal Studios Orlando so fruitful and are coming home with heaps of happy memories."
