Highlight - Issue 11
09 October 2009, Friday
We're in the last quarter of 2009 and it's all systems go at Resorts World Sentosa as team members gear up for the Big Date in the New Year's first quarter.

Construction activity, which goes on round-the-clock, winds down later this quarter as tower cranes that dominate the worksite get dismantled.

What visitors see of Resorts World from VivoCity shopping mall, which sits opposite the Sentosa Integrated Resort, conceals the hive of fitting- out activities taking place in the resort's huge underground basement and hotel structures: Rooms are being luxuriously fitted, food and beverage outlets kitted up, and attractions tested rigorously for safety.

Off the worksite, our tie-up with DreamWorks Animation shows the level of world-class entertainment that visitors to Universal Studios Singapore will enjoy.

Keep in touch with Resorts World. We have several announcements this quarter that will delight our friends and stakeholders.

Can't wait for opening? We can't either!

Progress Update
Construction Progress
Part of New York City's waterfront precinct is being recreated at Universal Studios Singapore (USS). Seen here is the first façade for a building at the USS New York zone. The facade is part of the elaborate themed zone that lets USS visitors experience the spirit, energy - and not forgetting the sumptuous food - of America's biggest city. The New York streetscape faithfully recreates the look and feel of New York City in the 1940s with the building architecture, sidewalks, and even the street signs matching those in the Big Apple.

New York is open for bookings for your special event. Contact mice@rwsentosa.com.

Construction Progress
Covered pedestrian areas at Resorts World will use the same type of ETFE plastic made famous by Beijing's Water Cube swimming arena during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The material will shelter some 70 per cent of pedestrian walkways at the sprawling resort, ensuring that visitors stay cool and dry, whatever the weather. The weather-proof areas extend to Universal Studios Singapore, where visitors can soak in the fun, without soaking in the rain.

Construction Progress
Next stop: Resorts World Sentosa! A new train station for the Sentosa Express monorail will soon be ready in the heart of FestiveWalk, the throbbing hub of Resorts World. The station's location outside the main entrance to Universal Studios Singapore is expected to make the Sentosa Express a popular way for visitors to commute from VivoCity to the theme park and its array of shopping and dining outlets. The station replaces the Waterfront station that was demolished in late 2007 to make way for construction of FestiveWalk.

Human Resources
Our headcount continues to grow. The number of Resorts World team members shot past 1,000 in late August 2009. Thousands more have been interviewed and hired to join the Sentosa Integrated Resort in the coming months. The red-hot growth path should see Resorts World employ a whopping 8,000 people in early 2010, making Resorts World one of the largest employers in Singapore.
